Need to download Microsoft Office or one of the component programs? You’ve come to the right place! I’ll give a quick overview of your options, and rest assured that you can download what you need right now without having to worry about waiting for installation CDs to arrive.
If you’re after the full Microsoft Office package, you have two main options – Office Home and Student 2010, or Office Home and Business 2010.
Microsoft Office Home and Student edition contains Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Microsoft Office Home and Business edition contains Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
Download Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010Just to give you a quick reminder, the programs listed above are the following:
Microsoft Word – Word processor
Microsoft Excel – Spreadsheet
Microsoft PowerPoint – Slide presentation software
Microsoft Outlook – Email client & personal calendar/organiser
If you’re not sure which of the above editions to choose from I would humbly suggest that you stick with the Home and Student edition, as it is noticeably cheaper. If you do decide later that you’d like to use an email & calendar client there are free programs available. Thunderbird is a good choice, particularly if you’re using the Firefox web browser.
If you’re a real power user of office software you could also choose to go for the Professional edition. This edition of the software suite is significant more expensive, but does contain some useful extras. Microsoft Office Professional edition contains everything from Home and Business as well as OneNote, Publisher and Access. These programs perform the following functions:
Microsoft OneNote – Note storage for multiple users
Microsoft Publisher – Desktop publishing and page design
Microsoft Access – Database
Once again for the majority of home, student or small business users I would suggest the basic Home and Student version of the software – It’s reasonably priced and you’re unlikely to need the extra programs bundled with the Home and Business & Professional editions.
With that said, if you do feel that you could benefit from the larger editions of Microsoft Office the extra programs can be extremely useful – Microsoft Access in particular is an extremely versatile program which can be a huge benefit for small to medium sized businesses.
It is also possible to download Microsoft Office programs individually, although as a general rule if you're looking at buying one of the programs bundled with Microsoft Office Home and Student you'll usually be better off buying the whole bundle. With that said, here are the links to buy each product individually:
